He who decides to spend a hiking holiday in Burgen has only to step out of the door of his holiday accomodation and he is presented with a bewildering wealth of routes from which to choose.
The extensive network of hiking trails and farm roads are just waiting for you to explore them. The central setting of Burgen makes our village an ideal starting point for day hiking trips.
You can stop in for a bite to eat along the way at the restaurant Hüttl Wirts in Hirzlei or at the trout farm Klaramühle on the path up to Gornhausen. Or you can relax after a days hiking in the restaurants Gutsweinstube Becker or Gasthof Lorenz and enjoy a glass of wine or a freshly drawn beer.
If you are into barbecues, Burgen's "Grill Hut" in the woods between Burgen and Veldenz can provide you with the perfect setting for a cosy party. (It is being renovated at the moment by the culture society (Heimatverein Burgen e.V.)

"Spurensuche" literally translated means the search for traces. What the name of the hiking map tries to convey is that there are many plants and animals in the woods around Burgen that you can find if you know what to look for.
The map (scale 1:25.000) was produced with the cooperation of the Veldenz office of the administration of the state forests and is designed to introduce our guests to the beauty of the forests round Burgen. The map features two hiking trails and the text included describes with lots of pictures the flora and fauna that you can look out for during your hike.
You can buy the map for 0,50 € either from the Tourist office of Burgen or in the village shop.
The five villages that make up the Grafschaft Veldenz together with Wintrich have produced a map (scale 1:22.500) covering the valley of Frohnbach stream and its immediate surroundings.
It is an ideal basis to explore the varied history of the "Grafschaft Veldenz" from the banks of the Moselle to the summit of the Hunsrück hills.
